WOODHAVEN LEASING GUIDLINES
There is no all inclusive do’s and don’t do’s for leasing, but here are some guidelines.
I can’t think of everything that someone might try to do, so basically, don’t do anything that you have not done or been taught to do in your lessons, without asking permission 1st.
What leasing allows:
1) On your lease days the horse is yours for a total of 3 hours from catching to turning out.
2) The lease is for you and only you to ride the horse. Not your sister, friend, etc
3) No changing days if you are out of town or rain or sick.
4) If there is something wrong with your horse, you may miss a day of leasing. If it is more than one day, contact Jean for a replacement horse.
5) lease payments are due the 25th of the month prior to lease.
Explanation of those guidelines. I believe 3 hours is a fair amount of time to be fair to the horse also. It doesn’t mean and hour and a half in the morning and an hour and half in the evening. It’s one time maximum 3 hours. And the part of changing days and missing if your horse is lame, well that is still a huge advantage over owning a horse so I think it is fair. Owners pay for their horses 7 days a week and never ride 7 days a week. They pay even if they are out of town or sick for several weeks. And they miss way more than one day if there is something wrong with their horse. So I feel like its a more realistic taste of owning a horse.
Treat this like you own the horse for that time and you are the ones responsible for the horse and rider safety.
1) No riding without a bridle. Halter and lead rope is not a bridle
2) No bareback unless you have done it in a lesson
3) Bareback only in the arena with the gate closed
4) Please check with me before going on the trail
5) NO RACING OR RUNNING on the trail. Cantering or galloping ok
6) If your horse is from across the street and you ride, feed the horse that day
You are the only one approved to ride the horse. Your friends, etc did not go thru the program to get approved.
Payments are due before the month starts as the week horse schedule has to be made and posted so I need to know who is leasing so that I am not reserving a horse for someone that is not leasing anymore.
The list of don’t do’s could be endless. Here are some I can think of but in general, use good judgment. Don’t try things you have not been taught, is a good rule of thumb.
Parents, this is part time limited ownership of a horse. This is unsupervised riding time. It is your job to oversee and communicate with your kid about what they are doing and about safety. Ask me if you have any doubts or questions.
